The Jurassic Coast Earth Festival 2012 is an umbrella for a series of events and activities hosted by communities along England's only Natural World Heritage Site to celebrate the world's outstanding natural heritage. The Earth Festival will raise the profile of World Heritage Sites and highlight the shared global values of UNESCO and the Olympics while the world's eye is on London and Weymouth & Portland in 2012.
Inspired by the 185 million years of earth's history displayed along the Jurassic Coast, the festival will encourage people both to appreciate and understand the heritage on our doorstep and apply this local knowledge to live more sustainably today. Rooted in the 'local', the Earth Festival will give residents and visitors alike opportunities to engage with global issues, reinforcing the importance of both our shared humanity and our shared stewardship of the Earth.
The main Earth Festival focus will be between 4 May and 21 June 2012, launched with the Lyme Regis Fossil Festival. The second phase, 21 June to 9 September 2012, will span the Olympics and Paralympics, when the Earth Festival will provide marketing coverage to relevant events.
