Fossil Festival Programme 2010

Saturday 1st May

10.30am - 12 noon Ammonite Slice polishing
Polish up your very own 175 million year old Ilminster ammonite to take home. All equipment provided and lots of fun! No need to book, just drop in!
Location: Coast Centre
Charges: £1.50 per slice

12.30pm - 2.30pm Fossil Hunting Walk
Join the warden team for a fossil hunt along the beach. All walks start from the Centre with a 20 minute talk on what to look for and how to find it, before heading out along the beach.
Suitable for all ages and abilities. Please wear footwear with a good tread.
Location: Coast Centre
Charges £7 Adult     £3 Child (no charge for 5 years and under)

3.30pm - 4.30pm Fossil Cast Making
Make and paint your very own plaster cast of a real fossil to take home with you. All equipment provided and lots of fun! No need to book, just drop in!
Location: Charmouth Fossil marquee
Charges: £1.50 per cast

  • Dorset Geological Association Group
    Discover rocks and fossils with the DGAG displays including feely boxes and lucky dip!
  • Microfossils
    Discover tiny microfossils by sifting through the sand and examine them under the microscope!
  • Fossil Insects of the Lower Lias
    Acclaimed local fossil collector David Sole will have some fantastic specimens of fossil insects on display in the Centre.
  • Ocean to Earth Jewellery Fayre
    Quality shell and gemstone jewellery set in silver

All day in the Charmouth Fossil & Biodiversity Marquee

  • BugLife
    Learn all about the bugs of the soft cliffs and take part in regular bug hunts run throughout the day...you can even make a bug hat to take home!
    NB: A small charge for activities may be made or a suggested donation to the charity
  • Butterfly Conservation Dorset
    Discover the moths and butterflies of Dorset with displays and activities running throughout the day. On Saturday night we will be setting up a moth trap so make sure you visit us tomorrow to see what creatures we have found on Stonebarrow overnight!

  • The Seahorse Trust and Seafari's
    Learn about the work of the Seahorse Trust and the role of conservation in protecting our British species, and fun activities with the Seafari's company from Exmouth.
